Introduction

The doctoral program in mathematics presents advanced training in theoretical and applied Mathematics, with an emphasis on algebra and logic (semigroups, operator algebras, non-standard analysis), mathematical analysis (differential equations, calculus of variations and optimal control, dynamical systems, numerical applications) and statistics (statistical modelling and data analysis, operational research and probabilities) There is a strong interplay between theoretical development and cutting-edge applications, in technology, health sciences, economy or agriculture. Within the scope of the thesis, an in-depth study is required in an area of mathematics or its applications, contributing to the development of mathematics. It is intended that doctoral candidates be able to conduct autonomous research, communicate and disseminate results publicly in academia, or be able to use knowledge in applications, whether in teaching, industry or others.

Professional Careers

Teaching in national and international higher education; scientific research career in national or international centers; senior managers of companies or public institutions in the area of mathematics applications such as: banks, financial agencies, insurance, industry, consultants, data analysis and statistical analysis, computing.
