Cities with positive energy
POCITYF presents website

The POCITYF - Positive Energy CITY Transformation Framework project launched a website where it is possible to find information on objectives, partners, cities involved and proposed technical solutions.

POCITYF is a project aimed at the generation of smart cities, whose main objective is to establish areas with positive energy balance - a defined geographical area where the average local renewable generation should exceed consumption, in terms of annual average - in urban contexts mixed and in heritage cities, through experiences applied in two pilot cities: Évora (Portugal) and Alkmaar (Netherlands).

The solutions tested in these delicate contexts of historic sites, with protected cultural and architectural heritage, will range from the management of renewable energy production or storage, the management of flexibility at the level of sets of buildings, whether public, residential, or services, and should be subsequently replicated by a set of six other cities: Granada (Spain), Bari (Italy), Celje (Slovenia), Ujpest (Hungary), Ioannina (Greece) and Hvidovre (Denmark).

Started in the last months of 2019 and with an expected duration of five years, POCITYF is project co-financed by the European Union Horizon 2020 programme, which involves 46 partner entities from 13 countries, and which recognizes the urgency of making heritage cities more sustainable and resilient to climate change, improving the lives and well-being of its citizens. The project has a global budget of 22 million euros for the cities involved, with Évora having an amount of 9.8 million euros.
