CGE - Évora Geophysics Center

The Evora Geophysics Centre ( CGE ) which has been in existence for about 15 years (created in 1991 under the Science Programme), has acquired strong expertise in the field of Earth Sciences, Climate and Space through a strategy of strengthening the scientific potential of highly qualified human resources. The CGE carries out scientific research, advanced training and extension in the fields of Seismology and Seismic Hazards, Applied Geophysics, Hydrogeology, Geodynamics, Economic Geology, Atmospheric Physics and Remote Sensing, Climate Dynamics, Scenarios and Impacts of Climate Change, and more recently, Environmental Instrumentation and Solar Physics. In the last tri-annual evaluation of FCT (2002), it received a classification of Excellent and is one of the best national R&D units for scientific and advanced studies in this scientific area. The scientific and assessment reports as well as the tri-annual report of this unit are available at Foundation for Science and Technology (http://www.fct.mctes.pt/unidades/index.asp?p=3&u=78).

In 2005 the Centre was awarded the Gold Municipal Medal of Merit, by the Municipality of Évora.
