Introduction

This doctoral program completes the cycle of training in Archeology offered by the University of Évora, in the 3+2+4 years format, in line with the Bologna principles and which allows students to combine the development and deepening of their knowledge in Archeology at an advanced, the acquisition of general, specific and professional skills which, as a whole, allow them to perform at a high level and be autonomous in carrying out quality scientific research. The PhD degree in Archeology will allow access to a wide range of high-level professional activities, such as the direction of scientific projects in this area in national and foreign institutions. The PhD program in Archaeology provides a very interdisciplinary approach, with a view to obtaining diverse readings and understandings of archaeological phenomena, from the pre-historical period to the industrial period and seeks to train researchers and graduates to be able to: - Inventory, analyze, understand and synthesize ideas and knowledge in the specific field of archaeology or related fields; - Demonstrate the ability for enhanced knowledge in the field of archaeology through use of, theoretical concepts, analytical methods and techniques and examination of complex scientific problems in this area; - Develop critical reasoning and reflection; - Cultivate new ideas and research with the highest quality of scientific and academic standards; - Carry out an original research through critical analysis of archaeological issues, thus contributing to the expansion of scientific knowledge in this area; - Developing the ability to communicate (oral and written) with peers, the academic community, and the society at large, on the issues in this field.

Professional Careers

Access to senior staff in Public Institutions: central and regional administration bodies, museums and other public or private institutions of a cultural nature; Careers in University and Polytechnic Education. Research autonomy through the direction of research projects ( DL n.º 164/2014, de 04 de Novembro); Management of projects/actions related to land use planning, EIA's, safeguarding and enhancing heritage; Provision of specialized services in public and private institutions.
